For Counselors

For High School Counselors

A Pathway You Can Recommend with Confidence

Every year, students come to you asking whether an accelerated path to medicine is worth pursuing. Here’s what to know about Western Atlantic University School of Medicine’s (WAUSM) Accelerated Pathway to MD (APMD) when that conversation comes up: a single application, a bachelor’s degree and a Doctor of Medicine in as few as six years, with conditional medical school acceptance secured before the student’s freshman year even begins.

What Makes the APMD Stand Out

One application, two acceptances.

Students avoid the fragmented, separate-application model of the traditional pre-med / med school route.

No surprises.

Published academic benchmarks and matriculation requirements are set up front, so there are no surprises mid-pathway.

A real off-ramp.

Once a student has met their partner university’s full undergraduate degree requirements, they’re awarded the same bachelor’s degree as any other graduate of that school, whether or not they continue into WAUSM’s MD Program.

Proven track record.

Every WAUSM student who took part in the 2026 NRMP Match and CaRMS Round 1 attained a residency position. See wausm.education/match-results for more details.

Is This the Right Fit for Your Student?

The APMD is built for students who already know they want to pursue medicine and are ready for a structured, accelerated academic timeline.

A strong fit for students who…
  • have a clear, early commitment to medicine
  • are prepared for a rigorous and faster-paced track
  • specifically want to practice in the United States
May not be the right recommendation for…
  • a student still exploring medicine as one of several possible paths
  • a student who wants a traditional four-year undergraduate experience before committing to a professional track

Our Partnerships Reflect Real Confidence

WAUSM has partnered with established US undergraduate universities – Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Batten University, Canisius University, Drake University, Goucher College, Manhattanville University, and the University of New Hampshire – to build the Accelerated Pathway to MD.

Universities with decades of academic history do not enter a partnership like this lightly. Each of these schools conducted its own due diligence before agreeing to commit incoming students to a structured, six-year medical pathway. Their willingness to do so is significant: it shows WAUSM is viewed as a respected partner within US higher education, and that the academic standards your student will be held to are the same standards these established universities were comfortable putting their name behind.
