Student Life

To become extraordinary physicians, medical students need to expand their horizons, build their character, and hone their focus. As a Western Atlantic University School of Medicine (WAUSM) student, you will be encouraged to take time outside of classes and clinics to do just that.

As a Caribbean medical school, WAUSM provides students with the tools they need to succeed in a diverse and inspiring environment. Numerous cultures converge in Freeport, creating a unique dynamic where students can make a difference while making their mark. Freeport also attracts a wide range of cultural events promoting local and visiting artists, musicians, and writers.

Several times a year, the WAUSM community comes together to celebrate our students’ achievements and milestones, beginning with the White Coat Ceremony, where you will be formally welcomed to the medical community.

And as a member of our initial classes, you will enjoy limitless leadership, academic, and community opportunities – from helping to shape curricula, to becoming the founding member of a student club or organization, to establishing health-focused initiatives within the community – allowing you to build a portfolio that will enable you to stand out when attaining a residency, and beyond!
