Admissions

Admissions

One application. Two acceptances.

The APMD uses a single application process that leads to two outcomes at once: acceptance into one of WAUSM’s undergraduate partner universities, and conditional acceptance into WAUSM’s MD Program. Below is what to expect, what you’ll need, and when to start.

What You’ll Need to Apply

  • Completed WAUSM APMD 6-Year Application Form (submitted through Apply to WAUSM). Domestic applicants may also upload their Common Application through the WAUSM student portal as well.
  • Official transcripts from all secondary/high school institutions attended (or your country’s equivalent), and college transcripts if applicable
  • Personal Statement – “Why Medicine?” (250+ words)
  • Resume or list of activities
  • One academic letter of recommendation
  • Test scores (optional – SAT and/or ACT)

Questions about your application or required documents can be sent anytime to [email protected].

Domestic Applicants (United States)

There are two ways to apply to the APMD, depending on where you’re applying from. Domestic applicants (US) apply through the Common Application, the shared application platform used by most US colleges and universities, or the WAUSM APMD application. You may upload your Common Application through your WAUSM student portal.

International Applicants

International applicants apply directly through the WAUSM APMD application; the Common Application isn’t required.

International applicants follow the same core requirements above, as well as any external exam certificates (eg, CBSE, GCSE, AS Level). You also may need to demonstrate English proficiency depending on your academic background.

English proficiency exemptions

You do not need to submit an English proficiency exam if you are from Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, a British Overseas Territory, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, the UK, or the USA. You’re also exempt if you hold an undergraduate degree from a university in one of the countries above, or earned an undergraduate degree within the past three years, from a university where English is the primary language of instruction.

If none of the above applies, you’ll need to submit one of the following general baseline minimums for direct entry. Some partner universities set their own, slightly different minimums; see your specific partner university’s page once you’re matched:

  • IELTS – 6.0 overall, with 6.0 on each band
  • TOEFL – 80 overall (20 reading / 20 listening / 20 speaking / 20 writing)
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) – 115 overall

Because international applicants also need time for visa processing, we recommend finalizing your undergraduate partner university commitment by May so the I-20, SEVIS, and visa steps can begin in June and July, well ahead of a fall start.

Additional Requirements by Partner University

Every applicant must complete the requirements above to begin the process. Once you’ve been matched with a WAUSM undergraduate partner university, that school may ask for additional, partner-specific materials. Your WAUSM admissions advisor will walk you through exactly what applies to you once your pathway is determined.

The Admissions Process, Step by Step

  1. 1Submit your application and required documents.
  2. 2Initial admissions consultation with a WAUSM admissions advisor.
  3. 3Your undergraduate partner university reviews your application and any partner-specific materials.
  4. 4Once accepted by the partner university, you’ll complete an interview with WAUSM to determine joint, conditional acceptance into the APMD.
  5. 5Conditional acceptance to WAUSM’s MD Program is confirmed alongside your partner university acceptance.

Matriculating to the MD Program

Applying to the APMD gets you started. Progressing from your undergraduate partner university into WAUSM’s MD Program itself requires meeting a set of academic benchmarks later in the pathway. Your admissions advisor will walk you through these requirements as you move through your undergraduate years, and full detail will be included in your acceptance materials.
