The Opportunity
The U.S. MD. Now Within Reach for International Students.
Nearly 25% of practicing physicians in the United States are born and educated abroad, yet international students make up less than 1% of MD program enrollment in the United States and Canada, and the UK caps international medical enrollment at just 7.55%. The doors are narrow, and the competition is fierce.
With a U.S. MD curriculum, clinical rotations at American teaching hospitals, and comprehensive career advising that begins in the first semester, WAUSM gives qualified international students a path to practicing medicine in the United States.
That record is real: our first group of students to enter the NRMP and CaRMS match process matched at 100%, placing across more than a dozen specialties including Child Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at hospitals and health systems across the U.S. and Canada.

Students learn in small groups at a 7:1 student-to-faculty ratio, with United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), U.S. and Canadian residency Match, and career preparation and dedicated advising built into every step.

High-Achieving High School Graduates
6-Year Accelerated Pathway to MD (APMD)
One Application, Two Degrees
International students make up less than 1% of MD program enrollment in the U.S. and Canada. The APMD was built to change that.
Students spend two years earning their bachelor’s at a WAUSM university partner in the United States, then flow directly into WAUSM’s four-year MD Program — no gap years, no reapplication. A clear, structured road to two U.S.-recognized degrees in just six years.

The APMD gives your highest-achieving students a direct, structured path to a U.S. MD without the uncertainty of reapplication. We provide counselor-facing resources and are happy to walk through the pathway at the conference or schedule a dedicated session for your school.
Our University Partners
Where the APMD Begins
APMD students spend their first two years at one of our partner universities in the United States before moving into WAUSM’s MD Program. Each partner offers a supportive environment, strong pre-med foundations, and a guaranteed pathway forward – no MCAT required for admission to WAUSM for international students. APMD students earn a bachelor’s degree from the undergraduate partner and a Doctor of Medicine from WAUSM.
Each school below links to its partner spec sheet. Partners marked with * are represented at IACAC 2026.
